Effects of postnatal exposure to benzo[a]pyrene on the immunity of immature rats

چکیده
To determine the effect of benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) on the developing immune system of immature rats, newborn animals received different concentrations (0.1, 1.0 and 10.0 mg/kg/day) of B[a]P in the first 14 days after birth. These rats were euthanised on day 23 of the experiment and it was found that the decreasing numbers of erythrocytes were in direct correlation to the dose of B[a]P. In subject animals, the overall counts of T cells in the spleen and the mitogenic activity increased. A decrease in the production of both IFN-γ and IL-4 (measured at the mRNA level) as well as the decreasing IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio in rat splenocytes were dependent on the dose of B[a]P. From this we may deduce that exposure to B[a]P in immature animals may modulate the immune response to infection and/or vaccination.

Effect of chronic morphine exposure during the neonatal period on the anxiety like behavior of immature rats
Introduction: Several studies have reported anti-anxiety effects of morphine in adult rats. The present study examined the effect of chronic morphine injections in infancy and before puberty on anxiety-like behavior in immature rats. Methods: Neonate rats (n=35) were randomly chosen and divided into two groups. On postnatal days 8-14, one group received saline and the other one received mor...
متن کاملComparison of the effects of Chronic Morphine and Tramadol Administration during neonatal period on pain threshold of immature rat
Introduction: Amongst the medications to reduce pain, morphine as an important natural and tramadol as an important synthetic drug have been mostly considered. There are few studies on the comparison of the analgesic effect of these drugs in neonatal and perpubertal periods. Methods: Neonate rats (n=49) were randomly divided into three groups. On postnatal days 8-14, one group received s...

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of age on the capacity of liver and epiderm of adult and weanging rats in transformation of Benzo (α) Pyrene. Materials and Methods: In a metabolic activiation assay system, cytochorome P-50 (from microsomal fraction) catalyses the formation of reactive epoxide of BaP which can then interact with exogenous DNA The capacity of cytochrome...
متن کاملEffects of benzo(a)pyrene exposure on the ATPase activity and calcium concentration in the hippocampus of neonatal rats.
OBJECTIVES To investigate whether postnatal benzo(a)pyrene (B(a)P) exposure caused the impairments on the process of neurodevelopment and the alteration in the calcium medium in the neonatal rats. MATERIAL AND METHODS Eighty neonatal Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into 5 groups (untreated control group, vehicle group, 0.02 mg/kg, 0.2 mg/kg and 2 mg/kg B(a)P-exposed group). Rat...
